Renshaws Guide To Christiania.

The whole time we were in Denmark Renshaw was banging on about going to Christiania in Copenhagen. Mainly because they have these booths were they sell all types of hashish, weed and ready rolled joints.
Anyway, let us get down to it.

Dice: So Rench, what exactly is Christiania?
Renshaw: Christiania, also known as Freetown Christiania (Danish: Fristaden Christiania) is a self-proclaimed autonomous neighbourhood of about 850 residents, covering 34 hectares (85 acres) in the borough of Christianhavn in the Danish capital Copenhagen. Civic authorities in Copenhagen regard Christiania as a large commune, but the area has a unique status in that it is regulated by a special law, the Christiania Law of 1989 which transfers parts of the supervision of the area from the municipality of Copenhagen to the state. It was closed by residents in April 2011, whilst discussions continued with the Danish government as to its future, but is now open again.
Dice: Erm? ok. I didn't realise you knew so much about the place. What about the cannabis?
Renshaw: Christiania has been a source of controversy since its creation in a squatted military area in 1971. Its cannabis trade was tolerated by authorities until 2004. Since then, measures for normalising the legal status of the community have led to conflicts, and negotiations are ongoing.
Dice: Wait a minute, this all sounds like you got your information from Wikipedia?
Renshaw: Yes, yes I did.

I don't know if you are aware of this but hot dogs are really popular in Denmark. Renshaw told me they're called hangover worms. I don't know if that is true or not but it's a great name. And yes, they really do work.

They are here!! Conrad took me down to the docks this morning. I picked up the van which had my bike stuffed in the back along with a load of Dice crap. I drove it home. I just unloaded it. And take a closer look at the photos, see that?! yes, that's right! some sunshine!! OMG!!

James got the bikes and people there, looked after us, sorted things out and dealt with all the other small things that go into putting on an event. James builds sweet bikes for a living. He works very hard.

Patrick was the host. He resides in the castle with his wife and 4 kids. His family have lived here for 14 generations. He also looked after us, sorted things out and dealt with all the other small things that go into putting on an event. Patrick runs a farm and a brewery on his land. He too works very hard.

I want to say a huge thank you to both of these guys. They are such good blokes and it was a real pleasure hanging out with them. They both love motorcycles and they did a great job of getting this whole weekend together. Big love.

Castle Run. Denmark. The Beer.

The Castle is also home to a brewery. Patrick started brewing beer here in 2008 and has perfected the art, a 2011 gold medal winner Krenkerup beer is so bloody good. Tasty and made with passion it's brewed using Danish malting barley and according to the German purity law from 1516. A way of brewing using only water, malt, hops and yeast. This stuff doesn't have any added enzymes, e-numbers, additives or added colouring. We drank it for 3 days straight barely stopping for food and I can confirm that there was not one splitting headache hangover amongst the whole lot of us. Cheers.

I don't really know where to start with this, the last 5 days have been so good. The location was completely amazing, a proper Danish castle with a whole bunch of ancient out buildings. The show itself was spread around them in a haphazard kind of way which really worked. The bikes were fantastic and so were the people. They came from all over Europe, Poland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Belgium and the UK. It's events like this that do it for me. They are so important. Next year you have to come, it's a great time, you won't be disappointed.

Sprint 160

Let me tell you a little story about this Vespa. Me and Dean were hanging out in April last year at the excellent Speedfest show in Barcelona, drinking some beers with our friends, as you do, and trying out my dodgy Spanish. Funny how after a few cold ones my Spanish gets better, weird that. Anyway, Jordi wheels in this very nice, fully restored, 1969 Spanish built Sprint 160. I clocked it right away, it was love at first sight. Jordi tells me he also replaced the 160 motor with a fully rebuilt and chromed out P200 and has rebuilt the original 160 too! That was the last straw, I worked on him all weekend, his English is as bad as my Spanish, all sorts of bartering went on. By the end of a drunken Sunday I owned it. My plan was to get it to my stepmothers place in Mallorca, just a short boat journey from Barcelona. So I get the phone number of this bloke called Keith out of the back of an English Mallorcian newspaper. He has a van and goes back and forth from the the island to the UK. He says he will pick it up for me and drop it off for 100 Euros. Sweet. He goes and gets it some 3 months later (?!) then just disappears, with my bike, spare engine and all the paper work. He doesn't reply to my emails or phone calls, after 8 months of this I'm starting to get pissed off. 4 weeks ago I was in Mallorca so I paid him a visit. Some old geezer with no teeth and bad breath is there and says Keith has done a runner, apparently he owes money to the bank and some well dodgy people and no one knows where he is. That's when I notice Keith's face on wanted posters all over the town. I forced my way into the house and there was my Vespa and everything else under a blanket. Just as I'm getting it out of there and driving away a van full of heavies turn up to repossess the house. I got it out of there by the skin of my teeth. I drove away very fast indeed. I then spent the next 4 days riding it around the island which as you can imagine was completely brilliant. Actually reading this back to myself I realise it really is not that interesting but what the hell.

This place I'm staying at in England is very rural so just recently I went for a country walk, as you do, and I stumbled across this great pub in the tiny village of Flaunden. What makes it even better is that every Wednesday evening and Sundays they have a classic bike meet. Not many bikes there when I went because the weather was rubbish. However one of the blokes said in the summer loads and loads of vintage machines turn up. Result!

One of the best shows on the planet. Some of the best times of my life right here, with some of my best friends...at this show...year after year. Unfortunately I won't be able to be there this time...but Matt is trying his hardest to figure out a way of getting there...Be afraid...be very afraid!!!
